Gif Me A Break!

GIF me a Break!

Two weeks into the Creativity mission and I can admit that I never thought that there would be so much work put into a simple GIF!

I decided this week to form a group together, consisting of Darragh Cole, Melissa Gilmore, and myself! I created a WhatsApp group chat, and organised for us to meet up together during the week. We met up on Tuesday to discuss our different tasks that we would be doing for the week.

I chose to talk about the GIF culture and animated GIF. I wanted to do a powerpoint presentation so started a Microsoft Powerpoint and worked through my topics. I also figured out how to create a GIF on Giphy and decided to combine an animated GIF and a MEME GIF together, killing two birds with one stone. I ended up enjoying the process of making GIFs with Giphy and made a few! I included my favourite GIF in my powerpoint, although basic, I enjoyed making it and that's what matters.

I was shocked with the amount of information on the internet about GIFs. There were articles from the New York Times that I sucked information out of, some online blogs about GIFs, everything I needed to know was right infront of me! I learned a lot, not just about GIFs, but about researching and taking the information I was given and making it my own. I feel like this gave me a really good insight into how I learn and my process. I enjoyed educating myself on the terms used within the articles I was reading, there were many words referencing GIFs and the technology around them that I had not come across before and I was delighted I got the chance to figure all this out!

Melissa decided she would delve into the history of GIFs. I found myself coming into the History of GIFs within the articles I was researching too, so hopefully we have a lot of information about the history of GIFs!

Darragh chose to work on Cinemagraphs. I haven't yet caught up on his work but I'm excited to see what he has come up with so far as I know Darragh did a Digital Media course before and I've never worked with cinemagraphs, or know how they even work, so I'm eager to find out!

Although I found this assignment so far to be quite time consuming, and harder to get my head around than expected, I'm really happy with how things are going so far and I can't wait for someone to randomly bring up GIFs in a conversation outside college so I can fill them in with all my new knowledge on them!
